Intramuros and Fort Santiago

Dr. Jose Rizals statue. he was killed for his patriotic writings.
Fort Santiago is one of the oldest Hispanic fortresses in the country. In pre-colonial times, this was the site of Rajah Solimans fort. The Spaniards fortified the original stone structures. Many areas were used for dungeons in WWII killing many American and Filipino troops.

We toured the area in horse drawn carriages in the rain.

In the background of this picture is the Manila Hotel. General McArthur stayed there and you can rent his room for 2,000 dollars a night.
